Tips for landing your first job
A short resume is normal. These habits help it, and your search, work harder.
- Search the words employers use. Try “new grad”, “graduate”, “entry level”, “junior” and “associate”, and for internships, “co-op” and “apprentice”.
- Apply even if you don't tick every box. Harvard Business Review advises applying even when you don't meet every listed requirement.
- Lead with projects. Name the tools you used, such as “Built a booking app in React and PostgreSQL”, so coursework reads as real experience.
- Label your education clearly. Keep degree dates in the education section, so a quick reader doesn't mistake four years of study for four years of work.
- Ask for informational interviews. MIT's career office suggests them as a low-pressure way to start a network.
- Search little and often. Run your search every few days with a short “posted within” window, so you only review what's new.

Yes. Set the job type filter to Internship. A job counts as an internship when the job site marks it as one, or when its title says intern, internship, co-op or apprentice. For full-time new-grad roles, choose Full-time instead.
Will it make my resume look more experienced than it is?
No. It never invents facts or numbers, and every change is shown next to your original wording. Missing keywords are only added if you tick them as true.
